We kicked off the year with the largest Lucky Top Deck tournament to date! 37 players showed up to battle for prizes and glory. 2024 is going to be a great year for cEDH and we were excited to announce that our series of tournaments is now part of the qualifier series for the European Championship. The winners will receive the opportunity to go and battle against the best players of Europe in Portugal this November.
Since the previous tournament, the community has been steadily growing. We have seen many weekly cEDH evenings taking place and the skill level has definitely risen among the players.
As always, there was a good vibe throughout the day! Marc, our champion from LTD1, claimed the first win of the day in just under half an hour. In round 2, Perry decided to set the record of all time fastest win with Kenrith, winning in just under 8 minutes.
The meta has grown to become more midrange-y with cards such as Orcish Bowmasters, Talion and The One Ring being prevalent. Players also had to race the clock a bit more with the time limit set to 80 minutes. The average games indeed went on a bit longer and the draws could become an important step to making the top cut seeing as two wins was not enough to get there anymore. We did however end with a clean cut to top 4.
Leon claimed the first seat with 15 points in the swiss! The reigning champion Ruben sat on the 3rd as he tried to defend his title.
1st seat
Leon piloting Thrasios, Triton Hero / Vial Smasher the Fierce
2nd seat
Nathaniel piloting Tatyova, Benthic Druid
3rd seat
Ruben piloting Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer
4th seat
Calvin piloting Korvold, Fae-Cursed King
The battlefield became very full very fast. After a failed win attempt from Ruben, Leon pulled the brakes and managed to wipe the board of the other three players with a Toxic Deluge to regain control over the table layers with a Toxic Deluge and regained control over the table. However, the pressure of the sans-blue decks was too much in the end. Tatyova had to tap out to rebuild, Rocco got stopped again and this time Calvin with Korvold in 4th seat found his window and pushed through a Dockside / Sabertooth loop for win!
Congrats to our new Lucky Top Deck champion. Calvin now is the first player with the option to go to the European Championship!
