This second iteration of our cEDH tournaments we welcomed a lot of new players! It is awesome to see the cEDH player base expanding. We also had a lot returning players, to climb up in the ranks.
We started our 4 rounds with 31 players, some of which have brought very spicy decks! A Kozilek deck made the finals with an stellar 3-1 record in the swiss.
As soon as the tournament started, a nice chatter filled the room. It was good to see that the more new players were made very welcome in the pods, and the friendly vibe continued throughout the rounds. It’s what we hope for: competition with a smile. But there was also fierce competition.
In the weeks before the tournament we had a lot of players do training sessions, so some came very prepared. The very first win of the day was claimed by Winota, with 18 minutes on the clock he managed to defeat his opponent, a great start from the player that later reached the finals. The record for the fastest win went in the end to Rocco who took the win with only 15 minutes on the clock.
This time we had two judges present, and together they made sure all the games were played smooth, a big thanks for their effort. With 90 minute rounds, we ended up this time with 3 draws during the swiss and a couple of games that were won in the last turn. The draws had not impact on the top 4.
We had Max go undefeated in the swiss, an amazing performance, and that earned him the first seat in the final.
1st seat
Max piloting Tivit, Seller of Secrets
2nd seat
Faber piloting Kozilek, the Great Distortion
3rd seat
Pablo piloting Winota, Joiner of Forces
4th seat
Ruben piloting Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer
The table was on high alert when Tivit went from a turn 2 Smothering Tithe into a turn 3 Tivit. A following end step Intuition pile from Tivit revealed a Sevinne's Reclamation, Time Sieve and March of Swirling Mist.
The opponents carefully worked together to not lose on turn 4. A Ranger Captain from Winota managed to delay the threat for one more turn. Then, with Tivit delayed, Rocco immediately took the opportunity to go for a food chain win attempt but that ate interaction from Tivit.
But Rocco wasn’t finished and out of nowhere he managed to pivot that very same turn into an Arena Rector pod line. He managed to assemble the Kiki-Felidar combo. Without any interaction left of his opponents he could go to combat and win this second tournament of the Lucky Top Deck Series.
Congratulations Ruben!
After the tournaments there were still player continuing to play on and enjoy themselves. These tournament have been a great opportunity for players to meet each other and find more people to play with.
